Devotional: Habakkuk 3:18

I found this scripture very encouraging this week.   Habakkuk would have been one of those people who always had a hop in his step and a half full type of personality... in my opinion.  Habakkuk was wise in this moment as he had pure joy even when the Babylonians invaded- he understood that he could lose it all but would still find joy in the Lord.   "Yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation." What a lesson we all could hear as we are putting our fancy Christmas trees and expensive gifts.   Don't allow these things to distant you from praising and rejoicing our giver of true gifts- Jesus!   It seems that many people think they need the next best thing to find joy- they are chasing material items that leave them unsatisfied.   Habakkuk shows us that no matter we should focus on getting our Joy from God and when we praise and rejoice him even through the tough stuff we can be joyful in knowing our salvatio...

2 Samuel 24:14

I am going to try to do a better job and putting some of my devotionals up.   I hope they encourage you with your walk with the Lord. So this devo happened through reading a kids Bible with my kids before bed.   It got me thinking more and more so I had to get my Bible out and do a little more reading.   2 Samuel 24:14- "I'm in a desperate situation! David said to Gad, "Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but do not let me fall into human hands."  Wow! David screwed up again and had sinned against the Lord.   God gave him three options for the sin and even though David didn't pick any of the three the Lord delivered the consequence- three days of terrible things- death of 70,000 people.  David must have felt a lot of pain and heart ache knowing his sin cause the death of so many people.  David though realized that God would still have mercy and after all of this heart ache David built a new alter.   ...

Book Review: The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional

The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional is perfect for little cubs settling down for a good night’s sleep. Including a devotion for each day with a reflection, Scripture, and a Bear Prayer for the End of Day from Brother, Sister, and even Honey Bear, these 90 reflections on simple Christian truths such as God loves us, love one another, be courageous and kind, and much more are the peaceful way to end a busy day. Bear Country friends will be featured throughout in simple artwork from the Living Lights brand. My Review: I am highly enjoying reading this devotional every night with my kids on each side of me.   If you read my blog often you know I love the Berenstain Bear book series.    The book is a hard cover book and each devotional is one page.  It is geared for children 4-8 years old however I think older children will enjoy it just as much. My favorite feature is how they end the devotional, a prayer from one of the characters from The Berenstain...

Chicago Trip Lesson

Don't follow the mold of the world. God has big plans for each of us. Be bold and don't give up. Be the "red" in a world of "white".

The 'get it now' mentality! (Devotional)

Pastor Anthony at Riverside foursquare church in LeClaire IA. Talking about the riches we miss out on because we try to bypass Gods order. Bless God today, be blessed tomorrow; bless self today and miss out on Gods blessing tomorrow.

The Bible and Self Helps!!

Devo from Hebrews  4:12 -13a (NIV) 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.  The word of God is more than capable of accomplishing more than any self-help book by identifying real issues and equipping us with the real solution.

Offense and Defense?!

Devotion from Jeremiah chapter 50. God is our offense   and our defense. What is His promise, whose battle are we fighting? Jerimiah  50:33 -34  This is what the Lord Almighty says: "The people of Israel are oppressed, and the people of  Judah as well. All their captors hold them fast, refusing to let them go.  34 Yet their Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is  his name. He will vigorously defend their cause so that he may  bring rest to their land, but unrest to those who live in  Babylon.

The Keys to the Kingdom

Matthew  16:15 -20 NIV 15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." 17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. Acts 1:6-8 NIV 6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit...
Encouragement from the bible about being intentional with how we live. Seize every opportunity for the Kingdom of Christ. Colossians 4:5-6 NIV 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Going to Heaven... But Wait There's More!

Devotion. Recieving Christ as Lord and Savior isn't all there is in the Christian life. Christ didn't just die to purchase us for heaven, but to give us a promise as well... His Holy Spirit. Acts 1:1-5 (NIV 1984) 1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

Satan is an Imitator, Jesus is the Real Deal!

God is pleased when...?!

God is pleased with what we do when it is in an overflow of understanding who He is. Relationship with God is the pre-requisite for pleasing service to the Lord, Martha and Mary. Luke  10:38 -42 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" 41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Hebrews 11:6 without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. ...

Revelation Of Gods Goodness Brings Us Through

Devotion from Acts  28:30 -31 NIV84 "30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. 31 Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ." KJV "30And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, 31Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him." Our circumstances dont define Gods Goodness, but the revelation of His Goodness gets us through all circumstances.

Not my situation, but my position!

Devotion from Acts 22, Acts 23, and Acts 24. Paul was faithful to spread the Gospel with personal abandonment and it landed him in prison, beat up and rejected; However, He was positionally ready to  present  the Case for Christ to many people of power. His situation might not have been great, but He was positionally where God needed him in order to make a greater impact for the Kingdom.

What Does It Mean To Be Saved? Salvation In A Nutshell.

The Definition of Christian and Salvation in a nutshell. Scriptures are referenced in NIV 1984 John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Matthew  7:13  "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. Matthew  7:21 -23 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name  drive  out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

Who Is The King Of Glory?

Devotion from Psalm 24. NIV  7 Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.  8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.  9 Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.  10 Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty— he is the King of glory.  God IS GLORY.  Everything He makes IS GLORIOUS!

His presence is FREEDOM FOR ALL

Daily Devotion from Acts 16. Paul and Silus are imprisoned for casting a demon out of a slave girl. They sing Hymns and praise God while in prison resulting in FREEDOM FOR ALL.  Text is from Acts  16:25 -31 NIV 84 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone's chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!" 29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" 31 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your hous...

It's Clean... REALLY!

Devotion from Acts 10. God reveals the breaking of  boundaries to make room for the Gospel of The  Kingdom.

David Knew Something Deep

Devotion from Psalm 16. We get to see  how the presence of God is a major  factor in growing and enduring faith.
