4 Foods That Can Negatively Affect Your Children's Mood

Although we often think about the foods we eat affecting our health, food also affects mental status and mood. You may be concerned about the foods your kids eat and with good reason. Many of the foods that children consume have an effect on their mood and can be harmful to them. If you're concerned about this area, these are some foods which have the potential to cause harmful effects.

1. Dairy Products

Dairy products such as milk, ice cream, and yogurt may cause irritability in children who can't process them well. Being either lactose intolerant or having a bad reaction to the proteins found in milk products may not be immediately noticed by parents. Children who have a bad reaction may become irritable and young babies may show colicky symptoms. If you notice these in your child, you may want to consider whether dairy could be the culprit.

2. Artificial Coloring

Although we know that many of the ingredients put into foods affect health, some of them have a larger impact than others according to an article that was published on Consolidate Times. Artificial colorings which are added to a wide range of foods have been associated with headaches and hyperactivity. In fact, this ingredient is banned in some countries and many food manufacturers are choosing to use natural food dyes instead. It's well worth the effort to try and cut this ingredient out of your child's diet to see if you notice an improvement.

3. Sugar

Although sugar is not an easy ingredient to avoid, you can try to limit the amount that your children eat over time. Sugar's primary effect on children's health is its ability to make children hyperactive. In the long term, it can also lead to depression, sleep problems, and cognitive delays. Although you find natural sugars in many foods, try to limit added sugars by limiting desserts and sugary drinks. This can make a huge difference in their long-term health so consider this as a priority.

4. Preservatives

There are a variety of preservatives that have been associated with behavioral problems in children. MSG and nitrites are just a few of them and they can cause headaches and hyperactivity. You'll find preservatives in most foods that are not fresh or frozen although some manufacturers are trying to avoid adding them to foods. If you do most of your own meal preparation at home, you can limit how many preservatives they get in their diet. Looking for foods that are made without preservatives is also a good idea for your children's health. Many people notice small but significant changes when they start to cut out these ingredients and enjoy the beneficial effect in their children's well-being.
Conclusion

Although you can't control every aspect of your children's health, the food that they eat does have an effect on their physical and emotional health. If you're looking for ways to improve their mental health, these four foods are some of the best options to limit and you may notice a difference when you start to cut them out.

Common Mistakes Made When Writing a Will

Writing a will should, by all means, be a simple thing. You want to make sure that your assets are being left to your loved ones and that your final wishes are being fulfilled. Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...

Although Andy had an MBA in Banking and Finance and had even written a book entitled, “A Guide to Taking Control of Your Investments”, he found himself to be disenchanted with the financial industry and left to pursue “other work.”  The “other work” that Andrew pursued was with the Church and did not provide financial support for the family.  During this time Andy and his wife, Lissa, struggled to find other forms of income. They did what they could for themselves and their five children but often it was not enough. But there were...
