How to Improve Your Home’s Heating and Cooling

Your home should be warm and dry. In this environment, you can keep your family healthy even through the most bitter of winters. You can also help keep up everyone’s spirits and help your family continue to do what they love.

We don’t do well in extreme heat or cold, but instead in that happy little goldilocks temperature range. Thankfully we have heating and cooling systems, but without a good maintenance program from a company like Kaiser Air Conditioning, as well as a smart approach to your home’s insulation and energy usage, you won’t be getting the most out of your home.

With this guide, you will:

  1. Regularly Deep Clean and Inspect Your HVAC

Whatever heating and cooling system you have, check it regularly. What you will need to do will depend on the type of heating system you have, but there are ways to either reset or clean out your system. With an HVAC unit, it is often best to subscribe to a maintenance program to ensure it is properly cleaned, from the unit itself all the way to your ducts. This way, you can extend the life and efficiency of your heating and cooling and don’t have to worry about breathing in the dust and debris that has accumulated in your ducts.

  1. Improve Your Insulation

There are four ways to improve your insulation:

  • Improve the insulation in your walls

  • Improve/repair/replace your roof

  • Use landscaping

  • Use textiles

Investing in insulation is ideal if your home is old and either used inefficient insulation material or simply lacks insulation outright. There have been really interesting new developments in insulation material, including an expanding foam that works to seal any air gaps so your home can stay dry and warm.

These are also more expensive options. You can instead work to plan bushes and evergreens along your exterior walls, buy and install thick insulating curtains, hang textiles and tapestries, and of course, use rugs to warm up your home and make it look great.

  1. Set up a Smart Home System

It is more efficient to turn off your home’s heating when you are out of the house and turn it on when you get home than leaving it on throughout the day. It doesn’t take an exorbitant amount of energy to heat a home back up, so putting it at a slightly lower temperature so that it is easier to heat up later isn’t necessary.

What you can do, however, is set up a smart home system. With your heating, it’s as easy as linking up to your thermostat. Done right, your heating should automatically turn off when you leave the house and turn on again when you are a certain distance away, so it’s toasty when you get home, and you didn’t have to leave it on to enjoy that privilege.

Keeping your home warm is great. Keeping it warm and dry is even better. Address the reasons why you cannot have this before looking to upgrade your HVAC unit because only when the foundation is in place can a new system truly work its magic.

Common Mistakes Made When Writing a Will

Writing a will should, by all means, be a simple thing. You want to make sure that your assets are being left to your loved ones and that your final wishes are being fulfilled. Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...

Although Andy had an MBA in Banking and Finance and had even written a book entitled, “A Guide to Taking Control of Your Investments”, he found himself to be disenchanted with the financial industry and left to pursue “other work.”  The “other work” that Andrew pursued was with the Church and did not provide financial support for the family.  During this time Andy and his wife, Lissa, struggled to find other forms of income. They did what they could for themselves and their five children but often it was not enough. But there were...
