Making Better Use Of All That Outdoor Space You Have

It’s a more common problem for homes with larger gardens than you might think. A lot of people are glad to have plenty of space, but aren’t certain what they can do with it. Not utilizing the full potential of your exterior is not only a waste of the space you have, but it might stop your home from reaching the potential value that it could be worth, too. For that reason, we’re going to look at some practical, recreational, and overall quality of life-improving upgrades to your outdoor space that are worth considering.

Decide What Your Priorities Are

Before you decide what you want to do with the space that you have, you have to consider what it is that you’re currently missing. Do you need a functional space, such as somewhere to work or extra space to cook? Are you looking for quality of life upgrades that can help you relax and enjoy your space a little more? Or are you more focused on maintaining the value or even the aesthetic attractiveness of the property? Below, we’re going to look at options that can meet each of those criteria, achievable at a range of different budgets, but it’s a good idea to have the “why” in mind before you decide what the “what” is going to be.

Split It Into Functional Zones

If you have a family that likes to use the outdoor space for a lot of different reasons, then you can start by dividing it into zones. For instance, you can have a zone that’s dedicated to raised beds of flowers and gardening, another for the children to play in, and another space with a patio that’s designed more for sitting back and relaxing. You can use planters, pathways, and low walls to define areas with this zoning approach without having to close them off entirely. Treat the garden like an open-plan room so that you can use it in all the various ways your family wants.

Live In Luxury With A Pool

There are very few things that can transform the vibe of a backyard quicker than a pool. It immediately turns into a destination for fun and fitness. Of course, there are different kinds of outdoor pools, such as plunge pools, above-ground pools, and others to consider, each coming with its own considerations, such as cost and child safety. However, if you do add a pool, be sure to treat it as the focal point it is, surrounding it with comfortable seating, edging it with lush greenery, and installing lighting around it. Pools are for swimming, but they’re also a great way to elevate the aesthetic of the garden and to give it a luxury resort feel that will have you spending more and more time outdoors.

Entertain Effortlessly With An Outdoor Kitchen

If you want the garden to feel like more of a natural extension to your home, then using a patio or decking to create a livable space is a great way to do it. However, you can elevate its usability even further with the help of some outdoor kitchen design. You can make it a lot easier ot cook, enjoy a meal, and socialize outdoors. Eating out in the sun when the weather is great is a fantastic experience, but being able to food prep and cook in the open air is a rare luxury, indeed. With a built-in grill, prep counter, refrigerator, and even an outdoor sink, al fresco dining can become a lot more than just an infrequent special treat for the family.

Consider An Outbuilding

You might want to make use of all of the space that your garden offers, but perhaps you don’t want to spend as much time outdoors. You just want to make sure that the square footage your home offers isn’t being underused. Outbuildings allow for highly flexible space beyond your own home. This can be perfect for a home office that allows you to focus without distraction, a gym of your own, or even an art studio that can help you be more creative in your daily life. You can opt for pre-fabricated models that can be installed more cheaply and easily, but custom options do tend to offer the most room to make it fit your exact needs, as well.

Get Lush With It

If you want to make better use of all of that outdoor space, but you don’t necessarily need it to be practical, and would be happy with a more aesthetic upgrade, then you might want to invest in more elaborate, colorful, and layered flower beds and planting arrangements. For instance, you can plant a tree or some flowering bushes in the middle of the side of the garden, then layer them with shorter flower beds, or spread out some ornamental grasses. Of course, everything that grows in the garden is going to need maintenance, so you need to be prepared to take care of them, whether that means automating your gardening with sprinklers and robot lawnmowers, hiring some help, or spending more time out there each week.

Add A Spa-Like Experience

Swimming pools are not the only water features that can create a sense of luxury in the garden. If you’re looking for a place ot kick back and relax, then you might want to consider a hot tub or a sauna, as well. These spaces require some investment to provide heat as well as water, and you want to make sure that the area around them is designed for safety, both to prevent unauthorized use of them by children, but also to prevent slips and falls when people are getting out of them. You may also want to consider some fencing or shade around them to make them more private, as well.

Of course, which of the upgrades best appeals to you is going to depend largely on what you want to do with the space. Hopefully, however, the options above have given you some ideas and avenues to pursue that can help you make good use of the space that you have.

Common Mistakes Made When Writing a Will

Writing a will should, by all means, be a simple thing. You want to make sure that your assets are being left to your loved ones and that your final wishes are being fulfilled. Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...

Although Andy had an MBA in Banking and Finance and had even written a book entitled, “A Guide to Taking Control of Your Investments”, he found himself to be disenchanted with the financial industry and left to pursue “other work.”  The “other work” that Andrew pursued was with the Church and did not provide financial support for the family.  During this time Andy and his wife, Lissa, struggled to find other forms of income.
