Could Your Child’s School Be Holding Them Back?

Schools are the most vital of institutions where our children learn, grow and prepare for their adult lives. Sadly, not all schools are created equal, and some could even be holding back your child’s progress. Read more about this issue in the post below.

Behavior

One thing that could be harming your child’s progress in school, rather than helping their behavior. Behavior is a very important part of any school because, unless it's properly managed, it can seriously impact both safety and learning. Indeed, many professionals believe that behaviour lays the foundations for learning, and the latter can be done without the former.

That is why your child’s school must have an effective behaviour policy that outlines exactly what is expected of each student and the consequences they will incur if they do not meet these expectations. Additionally, a good school will be consistent with these expectations, enforcing them for all students equally, as well as making sure that students know that poor behaviour will not be tolerated.

Quality of teaching

Another important schooling element that can impact your child’s achievement is the quality of teaching in their school. The quality of teaching is about the level of each teacher, as well as their line managers and departments and how they contribute to academic performance. It even includes the overall leadership and direction that the school takes.

Sometimes it can be hard to judge the quality of teaching at an individual institution. Although there are markers you can use, including state rankings, graduation figures, and college acceptance statistics. Schools with a formal accreditation in education also tend to demonstrate a higher quality of teaching. This is because they will be regularly evaluated and expected to work on the feedback they get to improve.

Resources

Resources, such as funding or government grants, or a lack of them, are another factor that could be interfering with your child’s success at school. Academically, this can look like a shortage of current textbooks, technology, as well as too few teaching and support staff for the number of kids and their educational needs.

A lack of resources can impact non-academic subjects too, including dance, art, theatre and sports. Indeed, these subjects all require specialist equipment, and when kids go without these, it can hinder their access, achievement and enthusiasm for these areas and make them much less likely to choose them later on, cutting off valuable and rewarding career paths.

Extra-curricular clubs and trips

Your child’s progress may also be held back if the school they attend does not have the money or access to extracurricular clubs like robotics, athletics, cooking, and trips, national and international. Sadly, when kids are denied these activities, their ability to get a wider education about the world, and learn skills such as independence, planning, and commitment can be severely impacted. With that in mind, it's always a good idea to enquire with a school before you choose what sort of extra activities they run, and whether or not they are subsidised.

Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...
