Day 10: Mixing Concoctions

Today was day 10 of the Hands on Play Challenge.  We mixed food coloring with water and baking soda and then Selah got to pour vinegar into the mixtures and watch it bubble up.  We used a full box of baking soda because we were having so much fun.

Flubber, gak, fluff, or whatever you may call it

Last night the family had an awesome time with flubber.  It was super easy to make and my daughter sat playing with it for a long time.  :)  I also found glue for 25 cents a bottle at the grocery store.  With school starting I bet many of you stocked up on your glue so here is a great recipe to use some of it.  :)  Here is how you make it: 1 1/3 cups warm water 3 teaspoons borax Stir together well 1 1/2 cups warm water 2 cups glue (about 2 large bottles) (I used 4 4oz bottles) food coloring (if wanted) mix together well Poor the borax and water over the glue mixture (Get ready to get sticky! lol) Let it sit about 20 seconds then carefully flip it over it will be semi solid and very sticky, continue to play and work with it until all the liquid is gone.  The more you play with it the more "solid" it gets, let it sit on your hand and it turns more "liquid" VERY fun! Once it is made its not very messy and easy to clean off surfaces. I stored mine ...

Salt and Ice Extravaganza

I got this fun idea from Mom to 2 Posh Lil  Divas  through her Sunday Showcase Linky.   I love finding fun activities to do in the summer when we have the hot temperatures.  We have to beat the heat somehow and there are so many fun crafts and activities to do with the little ones.  :)  I did not do all the educational things that Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas did since my daughter is a bit young to be learning measurement things.  Click her link above to see how she did it.  Here is what I did: 1. filled water balloons with water and put in freezer. 2. The next day I got the balloons out and filled one up with water then had all my supplies on a tray. I put food coloring with water in little muffin tins and found a medicine dropper to use to squirt the ice with. 3.  When we got outside I showed Selah the frozen balloons and the non frozen one.  We talked about the similarities and differences.  (hard, squishy, warm, heavy, light...

Science day with milk and food dye.

Today my daughter and I had some fun watching the chemical reactions with milk, food dye, and dish soap.  This was so easy and my daughter was extremely fascinated with it. All you do is: 1. pour milk in a dish or bowl 2. put drops of food coloring in milk 3. add a drop of dish soap on the food coloring 4. observe the colors moving around in the milk. EASY, FUN, and CHEAP! The supplies: Here is a great video of this trick:
