Moldy Bread Experiment

My students have enjoyed the "Moldy Bread Experiment."  We learned a lot and made some good observations each week.   First, we are worried about preservatives because our store purchased bread never got any mold!   Second, we realized that we need to clean our surfaces more in the classroom!  Last, we used social skills and turn taking throughout each week while we made observations.

Fidget Spinner Craze

Fidget Spinners- Useful or Distraction?   Okay, the masses are all arguing about these Fidget Spinners!  Kids can't get enough of them and teachers and parents are banning them! There are articles instilling fear in people from their is deadly lead levels in them or they are creating more chaos in the classroom.   You can see Snopes article on the lead HERE.   There are also parents screaming of all the dangers. Let's be real if your child is young and putting this in their mouth they probably shouldn't use it.  Like all toys you as the parent need to set the expectation on how to use the item!   You can read about schools banning them HERE . Now you all know I am a teacher and I do have to say that if every child came to school with one there would be zero learning occurring.  There are even a couple students in my building that have brought a doctors note stat...

How to Successfully Combine Family Life and Studying for a Degree

Once kids come along, your life is no longer your own. Kids are demanding and the older they get, the more they ask of you. If it isn’t lifts to the mall they want, it’s cash to spend on treats and new clothes. If you work full-time as well as juggling family responsibilities, you are probably wondering how on earth you can fit in study time. But don’t worry because it is possible – and the benefits more than make up for the hassle. Further education is always a good investment. Studying for an MSN in nursing administration from Bradley University or similar will give your career a major boost. If your kids are younger, you may not be quite ready to move up the career ladder, but once they are older, an extra qualification is all you need to take that crucial next step to a better-paid job with extra responsibilities. It isn’t going to be easy, but with the right domestic support, your hard work will pay dividends. Online or Offline Study Twenty years ago, online study wasn’t ...

Meet and Greet: Back to School

Last night we went to my daughters new school to meet her teacher and drop her supplies off.  This mommy is having some emotional thoughts as I type this.  I am so thrilled and excited for her but kids grow up so quickly and I am trying to hold on to her and keep her little as long as I can.  My daughter seemed a bit scared when we approached the school.  After we got out of the car she had a death grip on my hand.  It was not what I expected because she has been asking to start school and has been so excited thinking about it.   Tonight she asked God to help her not be shy or nervous for her first day tomorrow... it melted my heart but I know God will be right there with her guiding and directing her steps.    Tomorrow morning is the first day and sadly I have to be at work before her bus even comes.  :(  The adjustment of working full time is going slowly but it truly is a blessing for me to have this job.  I...

Last Minute 4K Changes

I had one of those Mama Bear moments.  You know the moment where you are being a good mom and then you listen to your voice-mail and the message says, "Hi, this is _____ from the school district and we just want to inform you of a change in your daughters school placement" and then all of a sudden panic sets in and there is steam coming from your head.  All these questions raced through my head such as: 1. I registered in Spring and went to the first open house at the school already, where we took a tour, met teachers, found classrooms... so why a change? 2. It is a week before school starts why a change so late? 3. How did they determine my daughter has to change schools when I registered her as soon as I could? 4. Why did I bother preparing her and taking her to what I thought would be her playground and school? 5. Lord, do you want me to keep her home? My husband is such a great man... a man of peace and a man who knows how to calm his wife.  He took...
