Book Review: Catie Conrad: Faith, Friendship and Fashion Disasters

About the book:
Catie Conrad is a typical, tween, Christian girl and the humorous new voice in a series of books called "Desperate Diva Diaries" by author Angie Spady. The first book in the series for girls aged 9 to 12, titled "Catie Conrad: Faith, Friendship, and Fashion Disasters," chronicles Catie's attempt at normalcy with the school dance underway and her families surprising plans to spend spring break on an Indian reservation.

Conrad is a typical Christian girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders. Between the upcoming school dance, a bratty little brother and his pet skunk, a big art competition and not to mention the school’s resident bully “princess,” her life is full of drama. The book is written in the popular diary format, as Conrad chronicles her life as a “wannabe diva,” and also includes her prayer journal. She learns that there is nothing the combination of her best friend and faith can’t get her through, and never ceases to recognize God’s hand in all situations.

In the first installment of “The Desperate Diva Diaries,” Spady demonstrates important lessons such as:
  1. Why you should love your enemies, even bullies
  2. How to keep a prayer journal and why it’s important
  3. Lessons from Esther: How to be brave
  4. Parenting with your tween’s interests in mind
  5. The importance of art and self expression
My Review:
While I may not have a tween yet I know that day is fast approaching and I don't want it to come here and not have some things prepared that will help my daughter keep her faith a priority while living in a world of selfish need to have pleasure now society.

This book has typical tween drama but it keeps some on my values as priority such as prayer and a devotional life.   Two valuable life lessons I want my kids to use as they grow up!

This is the first book in the series but I think my daughter will enjoy the series and be encouraged to be bold in her faith where ever she goes!   I always make declarations that she is spilling Christ's love every where she goes with wisdom and safety.   My daughters name also means to pause and reflect so I hope this book series will encourage her to think through all of life's choices.

Liquid Chalk spray! Chalk Idea #7

Last week we tried out the fizzing sidewalk chalk- click here to read that review. This week it is liquid chalk spray.  They are a bit similar but yet different.  Here is how to make it: Supplies: 1 tsp. washable tempura paint 1 cup of hot water 1/2 cup of cornstarch squirt of dishwashing liquid 1 squirt bottle- I found them at the dollar store 1.  Add cornstarch to one cup of hot water whisking to mix so that there are no clumps. 2.  Add one teaspoon of washable tempura paint and a quirt of dishwashing liquid.  Mix well. 3.  Pour it into your squirt bottles and shake well. 4.  Go have fun!!!   This kept my daughters attention much longer the the fizzy chalk last week.  I also think this was easier to work with and just more fun in general.  I love seeing the chalk wet but then to see it dry.  I think it dried darker so it was fun to see the changes.  :)  Ready, Set, Go!  Have some fun! She is my little model... she kept saying "take my picture mom." She is like her

Toddler Rainbow Craft for St. Patricks Day

St. Patrick's day is March 17th so its approaching quickly.  I have a few ideas on art and food projects that i want to do with the kiddos.  Hopefully I will have enough time to complete them and share them with you.   This was a super easy one for those little hands.  I cut the stripes of colored paper but if you are working with a preschooler or school aged child then they can practice cutting.  The two toddler boys here only had to glue the pieces on their piece of paper.  EASY, but they enjoyed it!  :)  It sure has brightened my kitchen with them hanging on the fridge!  :)   I also talked more about the Promise God gave us with the rainbow since I know that history a whole lot better then the history of the Irish Holiday!
