Book Review: "The Pirate and the Firefly"

About the Book:

Based on Psalm 1:1-3:

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit in each season.
Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
Oliver loves pretending to be a pirate, but learns that blindly following others doesn’t leave him with a good feeling inside.
In this Scripture adventure, kids join Oliver as he rights the wrongs done by his so-called Pirate friends.
Though it all, Captain Oliver learns that following God’s way is the true way to wisdom!
The second book in the Firefly Chronicle series brings entire sections of Scripture to life via imaginative, fantastical stories that use a passage from Psalms to help children understand and applly biblical truths to their lives. Each book in the series will depict Oliver wearing a different costume as he imagines and adventures his way through God’s Word with the help of Phineas, the firefly. The series will address the felt needs of children ages 4 to 8 including courage, confidence, friendship and more with biblical truths about God.
My Review:
This book is sure to please the young boys especially ones who likes pirates but girls as well!   My almost 4 year old (birthday in one week) made sure to retell some details about the mean pirates.   The entire story shares the guilty feelings of Oliver until he finally says no to the mean leader and becomes the new leader doing nice things!
The life lessons in this story are very real and the book can be a great resource to use to lead to more discussions about not being a follower especially if following includes hurting others.
I also loved the pictures on each page.  Another great feature is to read and discuss the scriptures in Psalms 1.

Dry Idea: Deodorant Review and Giveaway

I know most of you know I was at kids camp last week and I think I mentioned the humidity and heat that we had that week!  I was daring as I only brought my new Dry Idea  deodorant  that I had never used prior.  I had no idea if it was going to keep me from smelling like B.O or if I was going to have sweaty pits. So how did the Dry Idea hold up to the hot and humid days at kids camp???  Arms raised high during worship in the morning and in the evening!  :)  I was dry and I did not stink!  :) WOOT WOOT!  I had the unscented brand and I usually do prefer a pretty scent but it worked and they do have scents which include powder fresh and cotton dry that I might try in the future.  :) The Dry Idea Roll-On is 24 hour protection, fast drying MicroCotton Formula, hypo allergenic, and contains Vitamin E.  :) Don't like roll on's??  They do offer Clear Gel and an Invisible Solid.  :) Dry Idea provided a free sample of their Advanced Dry roll-On so I could review them.  However,
