I had the honor of preaching while my husband was away on a men’s retreat. At first, I almost said no because I’m still healing from surgery. But God gently reminded me that He loves to use us in our weakness, and He began weaving this word together:
“Prepared by Him, Preparing for Him”
We are all preparing for the greatest wedding in history: the wedding supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:6–9). The church is the bride of Christ, and just as a bride doesn’t walk casually down the aisle, we cannot approach this moment unprepared. Our preparation begins with salvation, then continues with holiness, devotion, and love.
1. Esther’s Example — Preparing with Purity and Preference
Esther 2 gives us a powerful picture of preparation:
-
A year of cleansing, washing, and being set apart for the king.
-
Instead of demanding her own way, Esther asked what the king preferred.
-
Her heart posture was: “Not my will, but Yours, Lord.”
Just like Esther, we are called to surrender our desires and seek the King’s heart. True preparation isn’t outward—it’s an inward surrender that says: “Lord, what do You desire?”
2. Choosing Love Over Offense
Paul calls us in Colossians 3:12–15 to put on love, forgiveness, and unity. Offense and bitterness destroy unity, but love preserves it.
Jesus warned that in the last days, many will be offended (Matthew 24:10–12). If we are going to be the bride ready for the wedding feast, we must:
-
Forgive quickly
-
Love deeply
-
Become unoffendable
Joseph’s story (Genesis 50:14–21) shows this beautifully. Though betrayed and wronged, he chose forgiveness over bitterness. His choice preserved the family of God and the line of Christ. When we forgive, we preserve the church and strengthen unity.
3. How Do We Prepare as the Bride of Christ?
-
Choose Jesus and salvation (2 Corinthians 5:21)
-
Walk in holiness and purity (Ephesians 5:25–27)
-
Stay watchful and alert (Matthew 25, Luke 21)
-
Guard your heart from idols (1 John 2:15–17)
-
Keep Jesus as your first love (Matthew 22:37)
-
Serve faithfully until He returns (Luke 12:35–38)
-
Endure with hope (Hebrews 12:1–3)
Final Call — Ready or Not, He’s Coming!
Revelation 19:9 says, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And Revelation 22:17 echoes, “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’”
The invitation is now. The table is being set. Jesus is coming for a prepared bride—clothed in righteousness, full of oil, walking in love, unoffendable, and bold in faith.
This is my prayer:
That we would not just say, “I’m getting ready,” but declare with joy, “I’m getting married!”
Reflection Question:
How are you preparing your heart to meet the Bridegroom?
