Praying Mantis

Have you ever studied the praying mantis?   On Tuesday I was walking with my student when we found a praying mantis using its street smarts using the crosswalk.  :)    This led us to learning so much this week.  I changed all our other afternoon plans and replaced them with praying mantis items.  I found a couple videos online to show, word search, reading comprehension, and a writing assignment.   I was also able to borrow a pet praying mantis for two days and during that time it laid its egg sack.  It was very exciting!  :) I had fun transporting it to and from school so my children could learn a little too.

Lalaloopsy Birthday Party

Happy Birthday!!!  We had "SEW" much fun, from the adorable birthday invites my husband made to the button bracelets, to the button cupcakes, to the button cookies to send home with the kids.  The sun was shining and the weather was perfect!  :) I had an awesome find on amazon when I purchased a button mold.  I melted white chocolate and put food coloring in it to create all the colored buttons for the top of the cupcakes.  :) Here are some pictures of the fun "lacing" race game we played with crepe paper.   Yes, we decorated her after the racing game!  :)  She was so excited to see her cupcakes.   Dear Sweetie, 6 years old and enjoying every day!  This year brought many changes and you took each one in stride with an awesome attitude.  Thank you for always being considerate and caring and pausing and reflecting like the meaning of your name.   I love your choice on the birthday theme...

Mary had a Sleepy Sheep- Book Review

About the story: “Young Mary had a little lamb. His name was Sheppard sheep, And everywhere that Mary went That sheep was sure to sleep.” This is not your average Mother Goose nursery rhyme. In this hilarious parody, poor Mary has one very sleepy, slumbering, snoozing sheep named Sheppard and Mary’s mom is not happy. Can Mary can keep her sleepy sheep awake? Young readers will laugh along at Mary’s zany attempts, as she tries everything from spicy-hot fiestas to water fights. The humor is fast and fun in this easy to read rhyming adventure. My Review: I think I enjoy kids books more then my kids.  Majority of us are familiar with the nursery rhyme but this new twist in the very familiar story will have your kids giggling and you!  It sure is a fun story that your kids will ask you to read over and over again.

Thank You for your Donations!! Light The Night 2013

I am so thankful my sister organized this walk!  I had a great evening with my family reflecting on my wonderful mom!  I miss her so so so so so much!  I can't even put it into words how much each and every penny that was donated to myself or Selah made me feel.  I love knowing that everyone wants to kick cancer in the face and never see its return!   I ended up raising $522.42 and Selah got $156.53.  If you still want to donate the page is accepting donations until November some time:   http://pages.lightthenight.org/mn/TwinCiti13/AFlanigan I hope to do this walk again next year!
