Salt and Ice Extravaganza

I got this fun idea from Mom to 2 Posh Lil  Divas through her Sunday Showcase Linky.  I love finding fun activities to do in the summer when we have the hot temperatures.  We have to beat the heat somehow and there are so many fun crafts and activities to do with the little ones.  :)

I did not do all the educational things that Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas did since my daughter is a bit young to be learning measurement things.  Click her link above to see how she did it.  Here is what I did:

1. filled water balloons with water and put in freezer.
2. The next day I got the balloons out and filled one up with water then had all my supplies on a tray. I put food coloring with water in little muffin tins and found a medicine dropper to use to squirt the ice with.

3.  When we got outside I showed Selah the frozen balloons and the non frozen one.  We talked about the similarities and differences.  (hard, squishy, warm, heavy, light)

4. Then we took the balloons off the frozen balloons and we put salt on the ice.  During this time we used our ears to hear the ice crackle and start to melt with a chemical reaction taking place.

Then it was time to put the food coloring on.

Watch the colors go down in the holes the salt made.

We were able to watch the ice over time to see it change.   When she is older I think it would be very educational to have her help fill the balloons and weigh and measure them before and after being frozen and talking more about chemical reactions.  It would be fun to keep a journal to record the changes that occur with the water, ice, melting ice.  What a great day of science fun for a preschooler or a school aged child.

MY MEMORIES SUITE Review and giveaway!  (#1 rated scrapbook software)  The above is one of the scrap pages I have created.  Super easy and super fast.  I only took a couple minutes to create a 8 page photo book.  I am still going to do some more with adding more embellishments!  The below is one I created all from scratch and it only took me about 5 minutes!  :)  SO EASY!   Here is a great video explaining more about the product.  There are also tutorials available on youtube.com I am not sure if you are like me but I have spent hours online trying to upload photos to the web to place them into something I was trying to create.  THE BIGGEST BONUS to My Memory Suite is the fact that it is downloaded to your computer so you do not have to wait forever for a picture to upload! It made my experience much quicker then other programs I have used online.  The scrapbook software was very easy to download on my computer and did not take long to learn how to create.  :) One feature t

Liquid Chalk spray! Chalk Idea #7

Last week we tried out the fizzing sidewalk chalk- click here to read that review. This week it is liquid chalk spray.  They are a bit similar but yet different.  Here is how to make it: Supplies: 1 tsp. washable tempura paint 1 cup of hot water 1/2 cup of cornstarch squirt of dishwashing liquid 1 squirt bottle- I found them at the dollar store 1.  Add cornstarch to one cup of hot water whisking to mix so that there are no clumps. 2.  Add one teaspoon of washable tempura paint and a quirt of dishwashing liquid.  Mix well. 3.  Pour it into your squirt bottles and shake well. 4.  Go have fun!!!   This kept my daughters attention much longer the the fizzy chalk last week.  I also think this was easier to work with and just more fun in general.  I love seeing the chalk wet but then to see it dry.  I think it dried darker so it was fun to see the changes.  :)  Ready, Set, Go!  Have some fun!
