The Day I Tore My Achilles Dancing to "Church Clap"

August 16, 2025 – A Night to Remember

It was a night filled with energy, joy, and worship. I had no idea that a moment of dancing would turn into a moment that would shape the next several months of my life.

We were dancing to "Church Clap"—a song that always brings so much fun and excitement. I was fully in the moment, clapping and moving with the beat, when suddenly I felt a sharp, intense pain in my ankle. It was so jarring, I honestly thought someone had kicked or stomped on me from behind. The pain stopped me in my tracks.

Trying to stay calm, I carefully made my way to a chair. Panic started to set in as I realized I couldn’t put any weight on my right leg and that it felt strange. Deep down, I knew something was seriously wrong. I sat there, overwhelmed and confused, when I saw my husband come over. He knelt by my foot, looked up at me, and said, “It’s going to be okay.” Then he began to pray.  He is a physical trainer and knows the body well... I could see in his eyes concern.

That’s when something beautiful happened.

People around us gathered and laid hands on me, praying boldly for healing. I can still hear a dear friend’s voice calling out, “More hands! More prayers! More hands!” And in that moment, God’s peace washed over me. I didn’t feel the pain anymore—just complete peace. It was surreal and deeply comforting.

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
— Philippians 4:7 (NIV)

Even though I felt calm and His peace, I still couldn’t bear weight on my leg. So, we made the decision to head to the emergency room.

At the ER, they took X-rays and performed a special test where I had to lay on my belly. The doctor found some inconsistencies with my Achilles tendon and, while they couldn’t give me a full diagnosis yet, they were concerned. I was sent home with a brace/cast, some pain medication, and instructions to follow up with an orthopedic specialist on Monday.

So that’s how it happened—my Achilles injury during a moment of worship and fun. It wasn’t how I expected the night to go, but I’m choosing to believe that God is in the details of this healing journey. He met me in my pain, surrounded me with prayer, and covered me in peace. And that is something I won’t forget.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
— Romans 8:28 (NIV)

Little did we know that with this injury happening on the 16th, God was aligning a season neither of us could have anticipated. Within days, both my husband and I would be facing surgeries—he for a torn bicep tendon on August 19, and me for my torn Achilles later that same week. It became clear that the Lord had us walking this road together—not by accident, but with purpose. We were being invited to trust Him completely, to lean not on our own strength, to kick fear out, and to recognize that through trials our faith would be made perfect.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Here is a video of my family and I in the purple dress doing the "Church Clap" dance successfully with no injuries in a wedding earlier in August.

Common Mistakes Made When Writing a Will

Writing a will should, by all means, be a simple thing. You want to make sure that your assets are being left to your loved ones and that your final wishes are being fulfilled. Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...
