Peace in the Waiting — A Lesson from My Senior Girl

This weekend was another milestone moment for my daughter’s senior year. She auditioned for All-State Choir! It’s a big deal because not many high school students make it in, and the process is intense.

On Saturday, she and her group sang beautifully together, and then came the exciting (and nerve-wracking) moment: she got a callback to sing individually. And guess what? She got in!

When she told me, my heart just about burst with pride. I’ve watched her pour her heart into music, balancing practices, academics, and cross country, and to see her hard work and determination recognized like this is such a gift.

But what really made me pause was a phone call I received from one of her friends that day. She said, “Your daughter is so calm. She doesn’t seem nervous at all. She’s just sitting and waiting for her call back with her binder on her lap. No one else is like that.”

And I smiled because I knew exactly why.

My daughter carries the peace of Jesus. She knows Jehovah Shalom, the Lord who is peace. She trusts that God’s plans are far better than her own. She’s learned to rest, even in moments that could feel high-pressure, because she’s anchored in Him.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14

Her calm wasn’t from confidence in herself; it was confidence in God’s faithfulness.

Selah’s name means “pause and reflect,” and that’s exactly what I’m doing—pausing to reflect on how faithful God has been. Watching her step into her gifts with courage and humility reminds me that when we let go of fear and rest in His presence, we make room for Him to move.

In November, we’ll get to enjoy her All-State performance, and I already know it will be more than just music; it’ll be worship.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Selah’s heart, her gifts, and the peace that only You can give. Thank You for walking with her in every step of this senior year—through the races, the songs, the classes, and the unknowns of what’s next. Continue to lead her with Your peace. Remind her that she doesn’t have to strive for favor because she already has Yours.

May every note she sings bring glory to You, Jehovah Shalom, her constant peace.

“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way.” — 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Common Mistakes Made When Writing a Will

Writing a will should, by all means, be a simple thing. You want to make sure that your assets are being left to your loved ones and that your final wishes are being fulfilled. Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...
