Today I was surprised with the sweetest fall flowers from Anthony and Selah. The bouquet was full of warm autumn colors, but what made me smile the most was the little hen-and-chick plant tucked right in the middle. I don’t know who decided that succulents belong in a fall bouquet, but honestly… it works. It made the whole arrangement feel unique, a little quirky, and full of personality — kind of like our family.
And yes, it’s hilarious that these fall flowers are now sitting on the table with the Christmas tree glowing in the background. Only in our house can you find pumpkins, flowers, and a tree all sharing the same space. But maybe that’s the perfect picture of this season: healing and growth happening right in the middle of what feels out of order, out of rhythm, and not quite matching the “timeline” we planned.
That’s exactly what healing has been like for me — beauty and struggle, hope and heaviness, progress mixed with setbacks. A bouquet of emotions all sitting side by side.
The hen-and-chick especially stood out to me. Those little plants are sturdy, resilient, and they keep multiplying even in hard conditions. I have several in my garden out front and they started with just one! They remind me that God built resilience into us too, even when we feel fragile. Healing may feel slow, but new strength is growing underneath the surface.
Scripture:
“He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”
Psalm 1:3
I love this verse because it reminds me that even when my “seasons” feel mixed — fall flowers next to Christmas lights, healing mixed with frustration — God is still bringing life out of it. I don’t have to rush it. I don’t have to force it. He strengthens me one moment at a time.
Sometimes the smallest gifts come at the exact moment our hearts feel tired. God sees us, and sometimes He sends reminders through the people we love — reminders that we are cared for, supported, and not walking this season alone.
Healing often looks like a mix of seasons… but God is present in all of them. Even when things look mismatched or messy, He is still producing growth, hope, and beauty.
Lord, thank You for the quiet reminders of Your love — even in something as simple as a bouquet of fall flowers. Help me recognize the growth You’re producing in me, even when the seasons overlap. Strengthen my heart, refresh my spirit, and let Your peace continue to guide me through this healing journey. Amen.
