A Night to Remember… and a Check on the Bucket List

Last week was something I’ll never forget. We got to see the Northern Lights right here in Iowa, something I’ve always dreamed of witnessing. Science explains that a solar storm made it possible for the skies in our area to light up… but I can’t help but see the hand of God in it all.

Psalm 19:1 kept echoing in my heart:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

And wow… they truly did.

It started when I stepped out onto the deck and caught the faint glow in the sky. That was all it took—we grabbed the boy and headed to the school football field where it’s a bit darker and more “country.” Even on the drive there, we saw soft streaks of pink glowing across the sky.

When we finally parked and looked up, the sky began shifting with greens and pinks, dancing slowly, almost shyly, but so full of wonder. Yes, I know the cameras can pick up colors and movements our eyes can’t fully capture… but I will forever carry a handful of images in my mind that I know no camera could ever match. It was like the Lord was painting right in front of us, wide brush strokes of color across His canvas. His beauty is breathtaking.

There was something else special about that night too.
I walked around that football field without my crutch. It wasn’t fast. It wasn’t smooth. But it was walking. As I moved slowly beneath those glowing skies, there was a peace that settled over me. Everything felt still, holy almost—like God was reminding me He sees my healing journey… and He’s with me in every tiny step.

The Northern Lights have fascinated people for centuries.
Scientists tell us they happen when charged particles from the sun collide with Earth’s atmosphere, creating color depending on the gases involved—greens from oxygen, pinks from nitrogen.
But spiritually? They feel like an invitation to worship. A reminder that creation is constantly speaking, constantly pointing upward, constantly declaring the creativity and majesty of our Father.

The greens and pinks we saw were more than colors—they were a quiet sermon.
They whispered of God’s brilliance.
His power.
His artistry.
And His nearness.

It was truly a night to remember.
A bucket list moment.
A holy moment.
And a memory I’ll carry forever.

Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...
