I really liked the NLT version of this Bible.  I also love that each day you will be able to read New and Old Testament and then Psalms or Proverbs.  I personally think if you read all of that then your next step would be to do a S.O.A.P devotional.  Never heard of S.O.A.P?

What Is SOAP?

SOAP is more than a formula; it’s a rhythm of fellowship.
It slows you down enough to really hear Him and anchors you when everything else feels loud.

S — Scripture

Each day you’ll read from both the Old and New Testaments.  From those readings, choose one or two verses that grip your heart.  That’s usually where the Spirit is speaking.  Write those verses word for word.  Pay attention to every phrase, every promise, every pause.  Let the Word speak before you do.

O — Observation

Look closer.  Who’s speaking? Who’s being spoken to?  What’s happening in the passage?  What does it reveal about God’s heart, His ways, His rhythm?  Write what you notice.  Sometimes I start with, “This makes me think…”  and follow that thought until it becomes revelation.  Observation is where information turns to invitation.

A — Application

This is where truth becomes transformation.  After you’ve seen what the Word says, ask:

  • What is God asking of me today?

  • What needs to align with this truth?

  • What obedience looks like right now?

Application shouldn’t be driven by guilt—it’s about agreement. It’s how the Word moves from page to life, from theory to obedience.  Each application is a small act of surrender that says, “You can have this space too, Lord.” Application is a written commitment to bring the truth of the word into your life immediately that day.

P — Prayer

Now let it breathe.  Pray through the verse you chose. Talk to Him about what stirred, what challenged, what changed. Thank Him for His Word and ask Him to seal it in your heart.  Write a prayer, you might be surprised looking back one day at how He has answered them. This is where ink turns to intimacy.

"The Reading Game" Review and Giveaway

Description: The first book in  The Reading Game  learn-to-read series tells the story of a skunk without a stripe who is rejected by the other skunks but finds acceptance among some cats and becomes their defender.  It’s told in rhyme, is beautifully illustrated, and is 32 pages long.  It will be the first book the student reads, and there are five more to follow in this groundbreaking learn to read program. Each of The Reading Game's six stories is told using just thirty new words.  These are broken down into six sets of five words.  The student learns to read each set of five words by playing a simple word matching game.  Frequent exposure through play hard wires these words into long-term memory.  Rote learning is transformed into a fast-paced game with a winner every few seconds. After completing Skunk, Game 1, the student has learned five words (can, cat, is, me, not).  Playing Game 2 adds an additional five w...

Common Mistakes Made When Writing a Will

Writing a will should, by all means, be a simple thing. You want to make sure that your assets are being left to your loved ones and that your final wishes are being fulfilled. Usually, they are rather straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that they are entirely foolproof. Here, we’re going to look at some common issues that can lead to disputes or delays in carrying out your will. Image - CC0 License Not Having It Witnessed Correctly One of the most common mistakes when writing a will is not having it witnessed correctly. Wills generally require the signatures of at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. If the will is not witnessed in accordance with legal requirements, it may be declared invalid, meaning your estate would be distributed according to intestacy laws, which may not align with your wishes. It’s important to follow the witnessing procedures exactly as outlined in your jurisdiction to ensure the will is legally enforceable. Chan...
