Worthy Girl: A Beautiful Reminder of Who God Says She Is #ad #worthygirl #BelieveBigger #LiveBolder #ProsperHigher
Worthy Girl: Believing in God’s BIG Purpose for You by Marshawn Evans Daniels is the book! I honestly got emotional reading it. Maybe part of that is because I’m a mom, and my own little girl is about to turn 19 as well as having a 15 year old boy. How did that happen so fast?! Parents they grow up fast don't take these years for granted, go and get the books and read and talk to them before time runs out!
I think the bigger reason this book touched me is because there is so much power in the words we speak over ourselves, over our girls, over our entire family. They say it takes 5 positive comments to cancel a negative one, so trust me you need this positive book to help your kids! This book is filled with positive encouragement and truth on knowing that God has special plans for each of us!
Worthy Girl gives parents an opportunity to begin building a little girl's identity on truth... God's truth that points back to Him, rather than allowing her identity to be shaped by comparison, approval, beauty standards, or what other people think of her. This world tries so hard to make our kids grow up so fast and makes standards that are ridiculous!
The message throughout this beautifully illustrated book is simple but powerful: she is loved, chosen, brave, worthy, unique, and created by God for a purpose. I love the emphasis on dreaming big rather than making yourself smaller. There is something incredibly important about teaching girls from an early age that they don't have to become someone else to be valuable. They don't have to live for everyone else's approval. They can become exactly who God created them to be.
One of my favorite lines in the book says:
“Worthy girls are already commissioned, so please don't crave another's permission.”
That line really made me stop.
If I were reading this book to my own little girl, I would absolutely pause there and talk about it. Because how easy is it, even as adults,to fall into the trap of seeking permission, approval, or validation from other people? Fear creeps in, fear of man comes too quickly! I would want the little girls hearing this book to understand that our first priority isn't pleasing people; it's living for the Lord. When our identity is rooted in Him, we don't have to constantly chase the approval of everyone around us. What a beautiful truth to plant in a child's heart early.
The book also has beautiful rhymes which makes reading it aloud even more fun! (I should have been a librarian reading to kids all day)
The rhythm makes the words memorable, and I can easily imagine a little girl wanting to hear it again and again. And honestly, anything that makes a meaningful message enjoyable to read together gets a big thumbs-up from me.
The illustrations add so much to the experience, too. The artwork is beautiful, colorful, and expressive, and it gives the words even more feeling. I found myself lingering over the pages rather than simply reading through them.
One of my favorite details is found on the signature page:
Ephesians 4:1: “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”
I love that this verse isn't only a message for little girls. It is a reminder for all of us. I AM WORTHY!
God has called each of us to something, and our lives have purpose. I love the idea of a little girl growing up hearing that truth and learning to see herself through the lens of God's calling rather than the expectations of the world.
And honestly, as a mom whose daughter is nearly 19, I found myself thinking about how quickly those little years go. One day you're reading them picture books. Then you're watching them walk across a stage. And suddenly they're stepping into adulthood and figuring out what God has called them to do.

A Book I'm Taking to Kids Church
While my own "little girl" has definitely outgrown a 4–8-year-old picture book, I'm not putting this one away! I'm planning to bring Worthy Girl to kids church because I think these are exactly the kinds of truths our girls need to hear.
I want them to know:
You are loved.
You are worthy.
You are uniquely created.
You can dream big.
You can be brave.
You don't have to become someone else.
And God has a purpose for your life.
What a gift it is when a book gives parents and caregivers an opportunity to speak those truths over the next generation.
Who Would I Recommend It For?
I think Worthy Girl would make a beautiful addition to a family's bookshelf, a bedtime reading routine, or a faith-building routine with a young girl. I think the church nursery would benefit from this book and every public library!
It would also make a thoughtful gift for a birthday, baptism, holiday, back-to-school season, or any milestone where you want to remind a special girl that her life has purpose and her identity is rooted in God.
And if you're a mom, grandmother, aunt, godmother, teacher, children's ministry leader, or anyone who has a little girl in your life, I think this book gives you something even more valuable than a cute story.
Most importantly, speak truth over her and then pray together over all of it! Pray and prophesy over your girl it will build so much confidence and take you deeper relationally too!
Because the words we speak to our children matter.
And sometimes a beautiful little book can help us start a really big conversation.
